This week, my interview with Krylyn Peter’s will air on her Get Out Of Your Own Damn Way Jam Sessions. It really got me thinking about common success barriers and all the ways we get in our own damn way, specifically when it comes to setting intentions.
You’ve probably read or heard about the importance of setting intentions in life and in business. Why is this such a big deal? Simple — “What you think about, you bring about.”
But I’ve been talking to a lot of entrepreneurs lately and one thing they keep asking me is how the heck can I expect to set clear intentions when what I want continues to be a moving target?
Because wishy washy intensions yield wishy washy results and manifestations are blocked when you keep changing your mind.
It might be that you aren’t entirely sure what makes you happy or deep down you are wrestling with feelings of unworthiness. Or perhaps the real issue is disbelief and you don’t actually TRUST that your wishes could actually come true.
These are all things that get in our way of a successful life and business.
So here are some handy hints to help you get out of your own damn way.
HELP – I don’t know what I want! Look, I get it. It’s mighty hard to set a crystal clear intention for something if you don’t know what you want or what to ask for. But what you likely DO know is the FEELING you want. For example, you probably want to feel fulfilled, respected, safe and financially secure. So go ahead and ask for that. And remember not to worry about HOW it will happen. That’s up to your angels to figure out.
THE HORROR – What if I ask for the wrong thing? This fear is really more about limiting ourselves than asking for the wrong thing. As humans, we really do have tunnel vision. If we cannot see a way for us to have/do or be something, then we limit what we ask for. The remedy for this is to add “Please bring me this or something even better” to whatever you are asking for from your angels. This gives them permission to bring us things beyond our wildest imagination. While we might be willing to settle for less, the Universe has all the power to bring us what we want and MORE! I say, don’t ask your angels for $5000 when they want to bring you $50,000! Open yourself up to ALL the possibilities!
WHO, ME? Ever get caught up in the “who am I to think I deserve this” way of thinking? Come on, I know you do! The fear that we don’t really deserve Heaven’s help can stem from guilt or fear-based religious teachings. But I have to tell ya, you don’t have to earn God’s love and help, it’s your birthright! So you, your friends, your Aunt Matilda and even your jerk boss all deserve Divine assistance and you don’t have to think you are “bothering God/Universe/Source” etc. because God is everywhere and can help everyone simultaneously.
ME, ME, ME, I, I, I – If you were raised with the belief that it’s not cool to ask for anything for yourself, then it’s probably going to be tough for you to ask your angels for help. You can reframe this fear of being selfish by reminding yourself of how many people, animals, causes etc. that can benefit from your success.
The more you receive, the more you can give. When you receive, it does not take away from someone else. That’s a lack mentality. In spiritual truth, there is more than enough for everyone.
I’LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT – This is the common mindset today but unfortunately, when you work with your angels you have to believe first and then you see evidence of their help. If you don’t believe your prayers will be answered, then you might as well not even say them in the first place. You can fix this tendency by thinking about all the times your prayers WERE answered. Think about a time or situation when you were very pleasantly surprised because you received what you asked for. We often focus on the big disappointments in our lives all the while forgetting about the smaller miracles that have come our way. Remember, positive energy and faith are what draws good things to us. So keep up the good vibes!
