Recently I was telling a friend about how my husband’s company is hosting it’s annual family retreat next weekend. I was telling her that the employees, and their families, get treated to an entire weekend of fun family activities, meals and accommodations at a lovely mountain resort in picturesque British Columbia! Her reply was “well aren’t you guys lucky”.
Now I don’t know about you, but when people tell me I’m “lucky” I kind of get mad. It implies that commitment, diligence, tenacity and plain old hard work have nothing to do with things. Like it’s just a matter of being in the right place at the right time as the Universe sprinkles magical fairy dust over the world. Give me a break!
The other reason the idea of “luck” makes me mad is because it implies that we are victims. That we are at the mercy of whatever the Universe dishes out to us. That we simply just must accept and settle for whatever gets thrown in our laps — good or bad. Well guess what I say to that way of thinking? It’s a load of horse manure, that’s what!
Because here’s how it really works folks…WE CREATE THE LIFE WE DESIRE. We are CO-CREATORS in this production we call life. Together with the Universe, you can make your life exactly the way you want it. You don’t have to just sit idly by and hope that you get “lucky”. You create your own luck, folks.
Now I know this might be a bit of a mind-blow moment for some of you. But the truth of the matter is when you want to change a condition in your life, you need to acknowledge your part in it. Try saying this…”I am willing to release the pattern within me that is creating the condition.”
You can say this over and over to yourself whenever you think of your challenge. The minute you say it, you are stepping out of the victim role and acknowledging your own power. You are saying, “I am beginning to understand that I created this. I now take my own power back. I am going to release this old idea and let it go.”
So here’s a little homework assignment for you. Think about something in your life you want to change. Go to a BIG mirror and look into your eyes and say out loud, “I now realize that I have created this condition, and I am now willing to release the pattern in my consciousness that is responsible for this condition.” Say it several times with feeling. Ask yourself if you really mean it. Convince yourself in the mirror that this time you are ready to step out of the bondage this issue has created for you.
And THAT, my friends, is how you begin to create your own luck.
Until next time,
