Remember that terrifying scene in The Shining when Jack Nicholson’s character, Jack, busts through the door with the axe and proclaims, “Here’s Johnny!?” That’s the image the angels showed me when I sat down to write this article on why you NEED more fun in your life.
In the movie, Jack is an author who takes his family to a secluded mountain resort in the dead of winter to write a novel. But he goes stark raving mad. His wife finally realizes this when she stumbles upon his manuscript and sees that all he has written is “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” over and over and over again. That dude DEFINITELY needs more fun in his life!
Okay, so maybe you aren’t about to chase your family around with an axe, but when you neglect to let your inner child come out to play once in a while, she’s going to get real cranky, real fast.
We have this crazy mindset that “when I finish this, or get this done, or cross off all my ‘to-do’s’ THEN I will take a vacation, THEN I will relax, THEN I will have fun.
Guess what the angels have to say about that? ERRR WRONG!
That’s totally a backward way to look at things. Instead they say, you MUST have fun first. Why? Because when you are having fun, your vibration is extremely high. And when you are vibrating in that range, you are like a magnet to attract great things into your life.
Can’t quite wrap your head around that? Okay then think of this. You know when you are SUPER excited about something? Don’t you feel like you are almost vibrating or buzzing with electricity because you are soooo excited?
Every emotion and feeling we have carries a vibration. When you feel joy, happiness, excitement and passion you become very attractive in the sense that you start to ATTRACT more reasons for you to be happy, joyful, excited etc.
Do you ever notice that some people seem to do very little and yet seem to have everything? These are the people who have figured out this little secret….have fun, and the rest of the stuff seems to fall into place almost on its own. Because remember, when you strive and push for something and TRY to make it happen, it will only allude you. (You can go back and read my past article, When the Going Gets Tough, Surrender, for more on that).
Having fun doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money or a lot of time. Just try to infuse each day with something that makes you happy. Do you love to read? Then pick up a great book and read a few pages. Do you love to create? Then draw, sew, paint, write or garden. Never give yourself permission to relax? Then set up a basin with some hot water mixed with sea salt and soak your feet for a few minutes while flipping through a magazine (and why not enjoy a cold beverage at the same time). There are TONS of things you can do. You just have to make the CHOICE to do them.
So forget about your to-do list already. Sometimes instead of spending more time at the computer, all you really need is to hop on your bike, get a little fresh air and let the Universe take care of the rest.
Now commit to making some small changes so you can start to have more fun in your life. And if you are still struggling, let’s connect!
