“Is ignoring my inner guidance bad?” is probably not a question you’ve asked yourself outright. But if you’re like most people, you’ve probably had a slip-up here or there and gone a different route than the one your gut prompted you to follow.
We receive guidance all the time (24/7 in fact) but sometimes we listen and sometimes we don’t.
When we don’t listen to it, the outcome is different based on the type of guidance that was coming through.
You may have never even thought of guidance having different purposes, but it sure does.
Sometimes guidance is there to help you hone your intuitive muscle.
This kind of guidance is usually subtle, so you need to pay attention to hear its whispers. It usually feels like a hunch or an “inkling” about something.
It might be a tiny voice, gut feeling, or knowingness that a job, client, or relationship isn’t quite right for you.
If you choose to ignore it, and go forward anyway, you’ll likely learn some important life lessons. Namely, to listen to your inner guidance next time!
We all go through this!
Sometimes you get guidance, trust it and follow it and you see what happens.
Sometimes you get guidance, and DON’T trust or follow it and you see what happens.
Over time, you start to see where you have a better success rate. And as I said, this is how you hone and strengthen your intuitive muscle.
Sometimes guidance is course correcting you.
This is guidance that comes through persistently. Sometimes people think if they “miss” this guidance they are out of luck. But the truth is, guidance always REPEATS. So, when you have a more persistent idea, thought, gut feeling or keep seeing or hearing something over and over, this is important to take note of.
What is usually happening is that the Universe senses you are straying from your true path and it’s trying to course correct you.
I give a great example of this in this week’s video so take a peek!
Now we’re human, so we usually miss the guidance the first few times it comes around. So, it does sometimes get louder and louder until we can’t ignore it any longer.
For example, you have the guidance to move your career in a different direction and leave the job you hate but you’re afraid so you stick it out only to get let go.
Or, you have a bad track record of taking good care of yourself and even though you’re picking up guidance to slow down you don’t and then you end up with a speeding ticket (literal translation of slowing down) or experiencing something physically.
Now I don’t mean for you to think that if you ignore your guidance, the universe is going to make something “bad” happen. And in fact, it’s only our judgement that calls it “bad”. In truth, after we go through those experiences we come to realize that losing our job or having a health wake up call was awesome because we did not have the strength or courage to make the necessary changes on our own.
Ideally though, you want to get really good at recognizing and acting on your guidance so that it doesn’t have to come to the point of it speaking to you so loudly!
Sometimes it’s life or death.
Now life and death guidance is something you really CAN’T IGNORE because this usually shows up very loudly and urgently.
You will often hear an actual voice warning you of danger.
And I have actually had this happen to me a couple of times in my life. Once, while I was camping in Africa and another time on Cascade Mountain in Banff, Alberta.
You can hear these spine-tingling stories in this week’s video. So check it out!
