Was there ever a time when you felt an intuitive nudge or hunch about something, ignored it, and then that decision came back to bite you in the butt?
I know I sure have!
In those instances, we realize that our inner guidance wasn’t just something we were making up, but actually helpful instructions about which next steps to take.
But what about when you DO trust and follow your inner guidance and it leads you to an outcome that wasn’t what you expected or wanted?
You probably asked yourself, “Can my inner guidance be WRONG?”
The best way to explain this is by using an example.
Let’s say you receive Divine guidance to open a new business. You know that it’s guidance because it comes through forcefully, repeatedly, and lovingly (all hallmarks of distinguishing REAL guidance from false).
You happily begin your exciting new venture. Even though there is a part of you that feels a little intimidated and scared, you are also excited and happy.
HOWEVER…your Ego is very upset that you’re taking action based on love and happiness (remember, the Ego is fear-based). The Ego knows that if you succeed, it will no longer control you and you’ll stop paying attention to what it dictates. So, it begins to rebel.
The Ego is very tricky. It cons you into believing that you shouldn’t trust other people. It convinces you to obsess and worry about money and your future. Since you’re already slightly worried about your business’ viability, you easily fall into the Ego’s trap!
Suddenly, you find that your fears about money keep you from sleeping at night. Your concentration is impaired, and you begin to make mistakes. In less than a year, you’re out of business!
You wonder, “what happened?!”
You start to think that maybe your desire to open a business was just wishful thinking, after all, you know you have trouble trusting your intuition.
But was that REALLY what happened??
The guidance to open your own business WAS Divinely inspired.
We know this because of these key characteristics:
- The advice was repetitive
- Came with feelings of joy
- Allows you to serve others and use your natural talents
- It gave you a sense of empowerment
So, what really happened here?
It’s like when the Ego’s fears arrived you took the wrong off-ramp from the correct road.
This is how we lose our way.
It doesn’t mean that the original road or destination was wrong, it just means we lost our way because we listened to our fears.
In the words of Doreen Virtue, “Fears don’t keep us safe; love does.”
Guidance is our inner GPS. It will ALWAYS get you exactly where you need to be, when you need to be there. But it comes down to us following the directions and staying on course.
